Andy Tan
Management Associate 2006
Currently Senior Associate, Investment Banking, Debts Capital Markets

“There is nothing training cannot do. Nothing is above its reach. It can turn bad morals to good; it can destroy bad principles and recreate good ones; it can lift men to angelship.” - Mark Twain. The UOB Management Associate Programme is, at the fundamental level, a training programme. Throughout the one month training period, I was challenged both mentally and physically. With a balanced emphasis on overall development, the initial training laid strong foundations for my future growth in UOB.
Due to the strong pool of candidates, the UOB Management Associate Programme is made up of intelligent and capable graduates. The group synergy is dynamic leading to strong intellectual discourse. Different perspectives and alternate viewpoints made the training process high powered with unique solutions to problems posed by the trainers.
In my opinion, the UOB Management Associate Programme provides a strong platform for young, fresh, goal getting graduates to develop and grow. In an increasingly global financial environment, the UOB Management Associate Programme equips its trainee with the necessary skill sets to grow with UOB regionally and globally.

Desmond Leow
Management Associate 2004 (Pioneer batch)
Currently Vice-President, Institutional Financial Services, Ship Finance
Graduated from National University of Singapore I am currently with the UOB’s Ship Finance team which looks at all ship finance transactions within the group. Prior to this, I was a senior Relationship Manager with the commercial banking arm where I was managing clients in the shipping, oil and gas industries predominantly based in Singapore. I meet up with the decision makers, usually the directors or CFOs, to understand their companies’ financing needs. Following several rounds of negotiation, I have to come up with financial packages which will meet the companies’ financing needs while mitigating the risks for UOB.
In 2004, UOB launched its pioneer Management Associate Programme and I took no time to apply for it. I felt that joining a Management Associate Programme is a good platform to embark on a banking career because it will give me a good foundation and exposure to different aspects of banking.
Opportunities are aplenty in UOB to develop yourself to your fullest potential as the management aims to provide a challenging environment for go-getting and passionate individuals who are hungry for success.

Corrine Wee
Management Associate 2004 (Pioneer batch)
Currently Assistant Vice President, Finance (Management Accounting)
Graduated from Nanyang Technological University I was first with Delivery Channels and Operations Sector, and am currently with Finance - Corporate Services. Both sectors have been generous in providing interesting assignments and responsibilities which have developed and sharpened my skill-sets, theoretical and practical knowledge, preparing me for any work, not just restricted to Finance.
One interesting and challenging assignment which I was involved was the “implementation of performance management system” for UOB HK’s business. As one of the Head Office leads working with the HK local team, key tasks included the study of Hong Kong banking environment for alignment and adaptation of policies / methods; and system implementation for profitability reporting. Working alongside our HK colleagues, I was able to experience first hand their local working culture, and also interacted and engaged the Business Heads.
Through this assignment, I acquired working knowledge of the UOBHK’s business and products, such as pricing of loans, and liquidity management. I also benefited greatly from the soft skills that I gained - cross-cultural sensitivity / interpersonal and communication skills. This experience stood me in good stead when I was tasked with developing a blueprint for performance management framework for UOB Buana.
In my opinion, the UOB Management Associate Programme provides tremendous opportunities for young, fresh and outstanding graduates to grow with the Bank, as UOB grows to be a premier bank in the Asia-Pacific region.
